Getting Involved with RTDC
What is a Motorkhana?
Motorkhanas are a central feature of our events and are incredibly popular with both our members and their guests. These exciting challenges involve maneuvering a car through a series of tight, timed tests—one car at a time—on either dirt or bitumen surfaces.
Motorkhanas are designed to test a vehicle’s acceleration, braking, and handling, while providing drivers with an excellent opportunity to develop their car control skills in a fun and supportive environment. Whether you’re an experienced competitor or a first-time participant, motorkhanas offer a rewarding mix of enjoyment and skill-building.

What Happens on the Day?
Before the Event
-
Online Registration: To participate, you’ll need to sign up through the RTDC Events registration page. You’ll also be asked to provide your car club membership and Motorsport Australia licence number.
-
RTDC will send you an email before the event for all the information you need to know and any forms you need to complete
-
Come & Try Licence: If you don’t have a licence, we can offer a one-day licence, which is payable along with your registration. This is ideal for those new to Motorkhanas who want to try the experience before committing to a full-year Motorsport Australia licence.
-
Self-Scrutineering: Complete your own scrutineering form before the event. This is a basic safety check to ensure your car is in good working order and ready for the event.
On the Day
-
Check-In: When you arrive, bring your ID with you. You’ll receive your course details, wristband, and car number magnets, which need to be placed on your car.
-
Mandatory Drivers Briefing: Attending the drivers briefing is mandatory as it covers essential safety protocols and event procedures. Failure to attend will result in a fine.
Motorkhana Sessions
-
Twilight Motorkhanas: You will have a minimum of 3 courses to complete.
-
Day Motorkhanas: You will have a minimum of 4 courses to complete.
-
Two Runs per Course: For each course, you’ll have two runs to get the best possible time.
-
Be Prepared: Listen for announcements so you’re ready when your group is called. Arriving early for each session ensures you can maximize your time on the skidpan.
Car & Safety Requirements
Motorkhanas are low-speed events with lots of turns, so there’s no need for highly modified cars. However, we do ask that the following checks are made as part of your scrutineering form and before you start:
-
Ensure there are no loose items in the car.
-
Clothing: Any clothing is fine as long as you wear closed-toe shoes.
-
No need for helmets, harnesses, or fire extinguishers.
-
Check that your tyres are in good condition.
-
Cameras: GoPros and other cameras are allowed, whether mounted inside or outside the car, as long as they’re secure.
Shared Cars & Dual Entries
Dual entries are allowed! If you're sharing a car, both drivers need to register and alternate car numbers between sessions.
Breakdowns & Recovery
If your vehicle experiences a breakdown or issue:
-
Pull off the skidpan to a safe area.
-
Indicate to the marshals that you’re okay with a thumbs-up.
-
A recovery team will assist in getting your car off the skidpan. Please note that additional charges may apply for oil cleanup or towing.
What to Bring
-
Food & Water: We recommend bringing your own food and water as cafes may not be open. You’ll be notified ahead of time if food services are available.
-
Comfortable Chair: While there are chairs available at the shed area, you may want to bring your own for added comfort.
Important Reminders
-
Passengers: Passengers are welcome but must be over 12 years old. There will be an additional fee for passengers at the event.
-
Driver Age: The minimum driver age is 12 years.
-
