Looking to get involved in motorsport but not sure where to start or even if you'll like it? Check out the details here on the newly created Single Event Auto test Licences which we previously known as a Come & Try Licence. This is affective from 8 April 2026

What's new and what is a Single event licence?

A new Single Event Auto Test Licence makes it easier and more affordable for people to participate in grassroots motorsport in a safe and supportive environment.

The new $45 licence helps Motorsport Australia-affiliated car clubs to welcome newcomers by creating a simple pathway to grassroots motorsport at the community club level.

The Single Event Auto Test Licence applies to Motorkhana, Khanacross, Observed Section Trials, Touring Road Events (which contain no closed road sections and no speed sub-events), Touring Assemblies and other non-timed road events.

Motorsport Australia Club and State Competition Manager Bruce Astbury said this reflects Motorsport Australia’s steps to remove barriers and make motorsport more accessible to new participants.

“Motorsport should be accessible to people of all experience levels, and this new licence creates a simple, affordable entry point for those looking to get started,” Astbury said.

“By removing some of the previous processes, this new licence will give more people the chance to experience grassroots motorsport at a community club level. It’s about building confidence, encouraging participation, and growing the sport from the ground up in a safe and supportive environment.”

How do I get one?

Once you register through to an RTDC event, you will receive a licence application which needs to be completed and sent back to events@rtdc.com.au

The paper form will be checked by event organisers to ensure all sections are completed, all declarations are signed, and no adverse medical conditions are declared without prior clearance.

Our team will submit this to Motorsport Australia on your behalf after the event has taken place

Once this is accepted by Motorsport Australia, they will send you the details on how to sign up for a 1 year licence and the $45 fee will come off the 1 year licence

RTDC does charge a $5 processing fee which is covered in your registration, making it a total of $50, however only $45 will be accounted towards your 1 year Motorsport Australia licence
